The Alphabet Mat

A while ago I was looking for an original baby shower idea, and I came up with this:

The animals are backed with Velcro, easy removing for chubby, busy little hands.  It rolls into a neat package that can be toted around to doctor's appointments, etc.  Then this Christmas, I was enthralled with creating an Advent calender for our family, and decided (ambitiously) to make one for each of my sisters and their families.  I was also due with our daughter around the end of November, so as you can imagine, this project got shelved more than once!  I did manage to finally get them finished and sent, though the last two projects didn't get out till the week of Christmas and were a few days late.

Anyway, while I was researching ideas and inspiration, I was surprised to see how many things could be done with felt; a material I had always considered more of an arts and crafts for kids kind of thing.  With some imagination, I am finding that there is no limit to what you can create.  Here is my latest project, a (very late!) Christmas present for my newphew, Oliver.

A version of this will available on my Etsy shop soon. http://www.etsy.com/shop/storkmail
